TONERS & ESSENCES...
The perception of a toner has changed over the years. Historically an alcohol based post-cleanse preparation, now a toner couldn't be further from that. Toners range from mists, to water based solutions, essences, exfoliators, hydrators and combinations of all of the above! Distinguished by the fact they are used AFTER cleansing, you can pretty much pick what you want your toner to do... and feel free to chop and change depending on how your skin feels, what's in your diary and how much money is in your pocket.
I tend to switch between intensely hydrating toners (and try to let those products sit on my skin and sink in) and exfoliators to buff away dead skin cells, even out skin tone or prepare the skin for applying make up. Choose your toner wisely according to your needs and consider whether it's something that needs to be wiped off the skin or allowed to settle on the skin continuing to work after application. There are so many new and innovative toners I want to try but my reliable favourites are listed here....
Baume de Rose
With the reassuringly distinctive signature rose fragrance, By Terry's beauty toner contains rose-hip to moisturise and hydrate leaving skin feeling super soft and cared for.
The cult favourite Glow Tonic from PIXI has become a staple for many. Acts as an exfoliator to remove dead skin thanks to the 5% glycolic, the aloe vera then soothes leaving buffed skin, smooth and prepped for moisture and make up.
Rehydrating Toning Essence
Sadly this is currently out of stock but has to be mentioned as a truly delightfully comforting, soothing, hydrating and delicate essence which is best patted onto cleansed skin and never wiped off!
Ready Steady Glow
Daily AHA Tonic
Boasting seven skin benefits, this AHA based toner promises to exfoliate, brighten, tighten and hydrate. Loved by MUA Katie Jane Hughes, its an affordable pre-make up prep which removes dead skin and leaves a super smooth surface to work on.
Hailing from Barcelona, Natura Bissé make great skincare. This toner, which comes in a "wet" spray (as opposed to a fine mist) and is kind to all skin types with restorative properties and ingredients including chamomile, elderflower and green tea extract.
